FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

CCPA was founded by chiropractors to ensure that our profession would always have access to expert-level professional liability protection from a team of lawyers and experts, led by chiropractors. We’re the only option that can promise this kind of protection. It’s important for two reasons. First, because CCPA was founded at a time when the insurance market was not offering coverage in Canada. We cannot let that happen again. Second, practicing chiropractors deserve to be able to call their professional liability coverage provider and speak to someone who understands chiropractic and life in practice.

Choosing the right professional liability coverage is a very important decision. We know you have other options. As chiropractors ourselves, we can understand the demands of running a business and making ends meet. We believe we are the gold-standard when it comes to protecting chiropractors in Canada. That’s why over 80 per cent of your colleagues are protected by CCPA.

Yes. CCPA believes that our profession is best served when these organizations are working together on your behalf.

We have heard horror stories from chiropractors who’ve been with an insurance company, had a claim and seen their premiums skyrocket. That’s not how chiropractors protect chiropractors. CCPA offers a $96 annual credit to members who are “claims free”. While a claim is ongoing you would not get that credit. Practice claims free for five years after the claim is resolved and we will automatically reinstate the credit. Note: Only members in the Regular Member category are eligible for the $96 claims-free credit. For more on the membership categories, click “MEMBERSHIP TYPES” at the top of this page.

Getting started in practice is tough. We are chiropractors. We’ve been there. As of our 2019 membership year, CCPA offers a special dues structure to help new members in their first five years post-graduation get up and running. Contact the office to learn more.

Yes. In most circumstances, as long as you are seeing fewer than 60 patients in up to 15 hours of practice per week, CCPA may be able to cover you in the part-time category. Contact the office for more information. Or if you’re a member you can request to change categories by logging on to the member portal with your email and password, clicking “My Membership” on the left menu, then “Request Category Change” on the bottom of the page.

Congratulations! Our job is to support and protect you. Contact our office and tell us how you’re hoping to structure your leave and we will do everything we can to work with you.

First, contact your chiropractic licensing body and make sure you have met all of its guidelines. Then contact our office to initiate the application process. Together we will make arrangements to get the necessary documentation. Finally, a member of our team will send you an application form to complete and return.

If you are practicing in Canada but move to a different province, CCPA would protect you if you meet all the requirements to be licensed in that province, (i.e. jurisprudence exam, member of the provincial association, etc.) but not in any other country.

We require a membership confirmation from the provincial association and regulatory body that you are a member in good standing and have met all the requirements to practice chiropractic in the new province.

In most cases yes. As long as you have been appointed as officially treating a Canadian sports team, CCPA can protect you. At least two weeks prior to leaving to provide care outside your province of licensure, you’ll need to obtain a “Group Contract” from CCPA.

No. CCPA’s malpractice coverage protects you anywhere in the jurisdiction in which you are licensed, as long as you follow all the standards, regulations and guidelines from your regulatory body.

You should keep in mind factors such as: getting permission to enter the home and treating on private property, secure transportation of patient files, and the possibility of additional general liability insurance (which is not supplied by CCPA). Please call us to discuss these factors or any concerns you may have.
